About Yung Gravy
Matthew Raymond Hauriwas born March 19, 1996. But you may know him better as Yung Gravy, an American rapper from Minnesota who first became famous in 2017 with his SoundCloud hit “Mr. Clean”. The song’s funky beats gained fast traction and earned him an RIAA certified Platinum. Since then, he’s gone on to become a rapping sensation with seven international tours, one mixtape, three albums, and seven EPs. Yung Gravy is often associated with fellow artists bbno$ and Chief Keef,
Hauri grew up in Rochester, Minnesota in what could be a typical childhood with his parents Peter Johannes Hauri and Cynthia Cleveland Hauri. He graduated high school in 2014 and attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned a degree in marketing three years later.
During his time in university, he began rapping for fun and started his career on SoundCloud after being inspired by other SoundCloud sensations like Lil Yachty and Lil Peep. He eventually quit his job and dedicated his time towards music.
Musical Style
His musical style is a cool and funky blend of modern trap music that draws themes inspired by the soul and oldies of the 1950s and 1960s. He also draws some inspiration from the soul and funk music of the 70s and 80s. Fans can hear this in the carefully chosen samples he uses to accentuate his music, such as the 1954 song “Mr. Sandman” which was used in his breakout hit, “Mr. Clean”.
Fans often describe his music as humorous and groovy with a touch of satire to spice it up.
